eLearning Course
Executive Summary: This project addressed the need for justice impacted women to get more training on the topic of the Steps to Accepting Feedback. The goal was to help change the learners’ views of seeing feedback as a personal attack. Seeing feedback as an opportunity for growth and applying it in all areas of their life will help them succeed on their path to reentry into society and help avoid recidivism.
Challenge: The current training materials on the topic were isolated to an ILT which lacked practice for the women to integrate the knowledge and skills they had just obtained. Also, the foundation purchased an LMS which had never been used because they lacked someone with the capabilities of creating an eLearning course and guidance on how to upload it to their LMS.
Solution: To address these challenges, I developed an interactive eLearning course using Lectora. The visuals and sound effects were obtained from Canva and Envato Elements. Lastly, I used Audacity for audio narration. The program incorporates real-life scenarios with a character named Nancy that learners help throughout the course to learn how to accept feedback correctly and change her views on seeing it as a positive thing to take. The learner gets experience with a job aid created in Canva that provides the 6 steps on how to accept feedback and under the step there are sentence frames provided for the learner to be able to practice using the language on how they would integrate and respond if they were accepting feedback in that real-life scenario depicted in the training. Additionally, the learners experience various knowledge checks through multiple choice questions and opportunities to write up their own responses. They receive immediate feedback with examples of correct responses and incorrect responses.
Results: The eLearning course has seen a significant increase in learners stating they were able to think about how they plan to respond if the different scenarios that were presented in the training happened to them in real life. The stakeholders and learners enjoyed the interactive format and engaging content through the visuals, sound effects, and voiceover. The client says they are very pleased with how the eLearning course helps the learners take the knowledge and skills they need to learn and it extends beyond what they could do with the ILT training alone because it is self-paced through its asynchronous scenario based learning.
